Introducing Tropical Racing’s Third racehorse offering, TRG3, a two-horse package of two yearling fillies. TRG3 will be broken into twenty 5% shares offered at $5,500 per share and as always Tropical Racing will remain a 10% partner retaining at least two of the twenty outstanding shares. The two fillies, Tropical Frosty and Margaret's Joy, are currently in training at JC Thoroughbreds in Ocala, Florida.
Tropical Racing’s philosophy regarding syndicating is simple we do not immediately syndicate the horses purchased, but examine how they train and get a good feel for them prior to offering shares to our potential partners. “We won’t sell a horse to our clients that we don’t have one hundred percent confidence in,” said Troy Levy, Tropical Racing’s Managing partner. “Tropical Racing’s team wants to see them develop the right way and have time to decide if the individual is going to be placed in one of our packages.
These two fillies are expected to begin their racing careers next year as two-year olds. The first Filly- Margaret's Joy is a good-looking, well-made horse, Kentucky bred. She impressed us with her athletic walk and long stride and was our primary target on the day that she sold. English Channel has impressed with a bevy of stakes runners every year and is currently the 4th leading turf sire in North America ahead of top sires like Tapit and Into Mischief. We are bullish on Kitten’s Joy as a broodmare sire coming from the potent Sadler’s Well’s line.
From a physical standpoint Margaret's Joy is the exact type of filly that we have been very successful with. She is a rangy, athletic filly with a great walk in which she really has great range of motion through her hips leading us to believe that she will have a powerful motor once she is fully developed. Tropical Racing Director of Bloodstock Management Charles Simon noted, “We examined her three separate times and she was exactly the same each time we viewed her which is a big plus in our evaluation process. Often at yearling sales the horses will tire from constantly being taken in and out of their stalls and walking for every potential purchaser. This fatigue will sometimes lead to sloppy action or a change in stride length which we view as a negative especially from an established consignor whose yearlings are generally properly prepared for the sale.” She was also given a clean vet report by Dr. Pug Hart who said she vetted well with no bone issues and a very good scope report.
“We are big believers in buying early foals from young mares and Tropical EC fit the bill from that standpoint as well. The big money purchases at yearling sales are fueled by pedigree as well as physical attributes and we are strong proponents of choosing excellent body types with a potentially emerging pedigree that we can help make ourselves as opposed to spending hundreds of thousands of dollars,” Tropical managing partner Troy Levy said, ”It is a similar philosophy of sports teams drafting well and developing players themselves as opposed to signing big money free agents. We think we got a first round talent with Tropical Margaret, we like her that much.
Tropical Frosty is the third foal out of the Smarty Jones mare, Angry Dragon and is a full brother to the recent NYB maiden special weight winner, Frosty the Dragon. She is by the solid Empire state based stallion Frost Giant and is fully nominated to the lucrative New York bred program and sire stakes. She is an excellent prospect as a well-made, athletic filly with a solid pedigree.
Tropical Frosty has a Werk nick rating of A+ and a True Nick rating of an B based upon the Giant’s Causeway/Elusive Quality cross. Among stakes winners from this cross are grade two winner Ghibellines and Grade three winner Get Happy Mister. Tropical Frosty is inbred to major stallion influences Gone West (3x4), Mr Prospector (4x5), Northern Dancer (5x5) and Secretariat (5x5).
“After looking at hundreds of yearlings this sale season, I believe that Tropical Frosty is among the best physicals of all the New York bred fillies we saw,” said Tropical Racing managing partner Troy Levy. “Being a New York bred is a great incentive as the program is lucrative and there is a full schedule of overnight races and stakes available. She is a bigger, stronger version of her full brother who is a very fast horse himself.”
